The Bio-Inorganic Chemistry research group (QBI) of the Universitat de Barcelona (UB) is recognized officially by the Catalan Government (grup de recerca consolidat 2009 SGR 717). The group led by ICREA Prof. Patrick Gamez is financed by the Spanish Government (contract CTQ2011-27929-C02-01).
ICREA’s aim is to recruit top scientists for the Catalan R&D system, scientists capable of leading new research groups, strengthening existing groups, and setting up new lines of research.
QBI is a coordination chemistry group whose aims are to rationally design and prepare ligands for the development of metal complexes with applications in anticancer and anti-Alzheimer drug research, supramolecular chemistry (anion-π and lone pair-π interactions), gas storage and catalysis (Metal-Organic Frameworks), and molecular switches (spin-transition compounds).
A research group with international dimension
The QBI group is participating in several European networks (COST Actions) involving prominent research groups from all over Europe. These networks offer the best research contacts and the possibility of fruitful collaborations at the European level. For instance, COST Actions allow the exchange of students who can spend a few weeks in a partner's lab, hence benefiting from the expertise of world-renowned specialists and high-tech infrastructures.
